Final Reflection
Walking into ENC 2135 on the first day of class, I had no idea what to expect. Of course, I knew the title of the course, and I had skimmed through the syllabus, but other than that, I was going in blind. As soon as I met Mat, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. There was a huge weight lifted off my shoulders when I discovered that my teacher was kind, and seemed to actually care about my success in the class. I'm so glad I took this class as one of my first college courses. I learned so much during ENC 2135, starting from the very first day. I can now explain to people what a genre is in a literary sense, not just in a musical sense. Trust me, it took a while for me to actually understand what a genre is, so I'm going to tell every person I possibly can.
When we were first assigned each project, all I could think was, "Will I really be able to write a 1,000 or even 2,000 word essay?" It seemed impossible at the time, but Mat was a huge help with this problem. He gave me great ideas on how I could write more, and how to embellish my papers to make them worthy of an A grade. I especially loved having the little conferences for project #1 and project #2. It added a personal element to this course, and it felt nice to be able to talk with Mat about my paper for 15 minutes. Once I sat down to start a project, it was hard to get me to stop. The prompts for each essay made it easy to poor my thoughts and feelings into my work, and before I knew it, I was past the word count.
ENC 2135 in the summer is very fast paced, but I'm glad I took this as a summer course. I'm a very big procrastinator, but the constant upcoming deadlines really made me work harder, and I enjoyed getting my assignments done before the last minute. Not only did I enjoy this class a ton, but I enjoyed having Mat as my teacher. When my friends in other ENC 2135 classes would talk about their teachers, they often felt disconnected from them, and saw the class as just another credit to earn. However, I felt that my ENC 2135 class formed a bond, and being in this class was unlike any other class experience I have had before. The amount of participation, the kindness of my peers, and the content we learned made this one of my favorite classes I have ever taken.
In conclusion, this class was way more fun than I thought it would be, and I'm thrilled that I was able to start my college career with this class. Thank you to Mat, and to everyone else that was in this class. You all made getting up at 7 A.M. a bearable task, and I can't thank you enough for that.
